Addison Steele’s Background
Addison Steele was born in Calexico, California; he grew up in a bilingual household and speaks, reads, and writes Spanish.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in History from U.C. Berkeley and his law degree from the University of San Diego.
He started his legal career in Santa Maria as a Legal Aid Foundation attorney. He then moved on to the Santa Barbara County Public Defenders Office, where he practiced first in Santa Maria and then in Santa Barbara. He then practiced for ten years as a Deputy Public Defender in Riverside and is now again a Deputy Public Defender in Santa Barbara County assigned to the Lompoc office.
Statewide Defender of the Year
In 2009, he was named statewide Defender of the Year by the California Public Defender’s Association (a roughly 4000-member statewide defense attorney organization).
